We’ve talked about how important it is to know “what’s in it for me?” when trying to get your membership engaged and active. We’ve also talked about some ways to determine what motivates your members.
What Now?
Before going any further, you need to figure out if you are providing the type of benefits your membership is looking for from your organization.
Are you emphasizing that they are getting good value for their membership dollars when in reality they are mainly concerned with their child’s safety? Are you promoting your association’s networking opportunities when they value easy-to-access information?
The benefits your organization provides must line up with what your membership wants. If it doesn’t, you are fighting a losing battle.
Next Steps
Once you are sure your organization can provide the benefits your membership is looking for, you need to start finding ways to show and tell.
Not only is it important to let your membership know what you are doing, but it is equally important to show them and provide them with opportunities to participate.
If the benefit they are receiving is that they are feeling good about their contributions, then make sure you provide them with those ‘feel goods’. Show them pictures and tell them stories of people who have benefited from their involvement and plan events around showcasing the results of their contributions.
If their child’s safety is their main motivation or benefit of belonging to your group, make sure to keep them abreast of your safety policies and any new safety projects. Show them pictures of happy, smiling and safe kids. Let them know how much you care for their children. Show a caring and loving attitude.
The ways of highlighting the benefits your organization provides is limited only by your imagination.
Do you have any imaginative ideas or ways you can think of to showcase the benefits you provide?
